Pietro Paolo Savorgnan di Brazzà, otherwise known as Pierre de Brazza, was an italian-born frenchman, and an excellent explorer. His ‘exploration of Africa is particularly notable, since he did it in a completely pacifistic manner (he also had a reputation for his charm and manners). He became the governor of french Congo and was dismissed from his position a year later, for having the natives live in ‘too good conditions’. So not only was he dashing, but Pietro was also a really nice guy.
Fun fact: For a more comfortable voyage, de Brazza asked a small french company to design a bed for his travels, and he received a case which, when opened, turned into a camping bed. This company was… Louis Vuitton.
